Mold;Decomposition

Sustainable Knitwear Project

Mold is often perceived as a harmful substance, yet it can serve meaningful and even beneficial purposes. Just as mold contributes to biodiversity and helps maintain balance within natural ecosystems, clothing plays a similar role in our lives, protecting the body while expressing one’s identity, personality, and social context.

Mold is capable of producing valuable compounds such as antibiotics, and each strain exhibits a unique color, texture, and form. When these distinct patterns come together, they create unexpectedly beautiful and complex compositions. Observing the subtle spread of mold in daily life has evoked a sense of both mystery and aesthetic fascination. Its irregular yet repetitive growth patterns reminded me of textile designs, ultimately inspiring me to envision garments that embody this raw, organic beauty.
